Lewis Hamilton has escaped injury after a high-speed crash during the final qualifying session at the Nurburgring. The rookie was halfway through a rapid first flying lap on new tyres when his McLaren’s right-front wheel exploded on the 150mph turn-in to the Michael Schumacher S-bend. After ploughing into the tyre barrier at what seemed almost unabated speed, Hamilton took some time to get out of the cockpit, raising concerns that he may have injured his foot or leg.
