In one of the recent contents produced by Jay Leno’s Garage, the titular host of the show featured a review of the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared wherein he also spent time behind its wheel. Leno was all-praises to this version of the iconic SUV and called it “pretty amazing”.
What makes the AMG G63 4×4 Squared stand out from the other versions of the G-Class is its hand-built engine. Then, it comes with three locking differentials found in the front, center, and rear. Next, it has a permanent four-wheel-drive configuration to ensure its maximum power delivery and traction. In addition, it is fitted with 22-inch wheels wrapped in 325 mm tires for maximum road grip, extra height, and better stability.
In terms of power, the AMG G63 4×4 Squared is equipped with a hand-built AMG engine complete with a nameplate of the engineer who handled its assembly. It features a 4.0-liter displacement with a twin-turbo V8 setup.
The configuration is good for 567 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. All that power is distributed via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Overall, these allow the SUV to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds under favorable road conditions.
One interesting detail revealed during Leno’s test drive is that the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared can smoothly cruise at 50 mph under the ninth gear with only a 1,100 rpm reading on the tacho. That means the gas mileage of the auto may not be as bad as what most people think.
