Is Daimler Planning to Run Aston Martin

Aston-Martin-Daimler-Engines

Will Daimler increase its stake with Aston Martin? Is the multinational corporation interested in running the supercar brand? These questions have been thrown a lot since news about the parent of Mercedes-Benz acquiring a share in the British automaker broke out.

Aston Martin would surely get the leverage it needs in the market with a big name such as Daimler running it, or with the big German company pouring more cash to the brand. Sadly for the British carmaker, Dr. Dieter Zetsche vehemently denied such speculations.

Dr. Zetsche has been saying over and over again that his company is not interested in running Aston Martin. He explained that their relationship would only involve nothing more than an arm’s length transaction.

When asked again about the subject again during the 2014 Paris Motor Show, he reiterated that Daimler has no plans of increasing its five percent stake with the supercar maker. He also mentioned once more that such move would not serve the interests of both companies. In Daimler’s standpoint, the CEO added getting Aston Martin under its wing would present a distraction to its “core business”.

In our earlier report, we cited some good points raised by one automotive website as to how Daimler could benefit if it were to buy Aston Martin. These seemed to be pretty reasonable. However, the source questioned about what could the automaker offer to Daimler that its Mercedes-Benz brand doesn’t already have. It should be added that the AMG division has its own performance cars as well that could equal or even surpass the ones offered by the British brand in terms of overall features.
