Is Daimler Exploring Producing Mercedes-Benz Cars in Mexico with Nissan?

Mercedes-Benz-A-Class-Production

Daimler is said to be eyeing joint car production with Nissan in Mexico, according to reports. It seems the German company is looking into various options to get production of certain Mercedes-Benz cars, such as the A-Class, through Nissan facilities in the country.

According to a Daimler official who wishes to remain anonymous, the joint production in Mexico has a good chance of pushing through.

Aside from that, Mercedes-Benz Mexico president Pedro Tabera was quoted in a Mexican paper, El Financiero, saying that there is truth to this matter.

“Various alternatives are being considered, among them producing with Nissan Mexicana,” said Tabera.

Mercedes-Benz Mexico also manufactures the C-Class, E-Class, and M-Class fully, along with some trucks and buses, using parts built locally. It also manufactures certain models in semi knockdown kits and complete knockdown kits.

Of course, Daimler spokespersons declined to provide any comment on the matter, especially since it concerns mostly speculation. Nissan representatives likewise refused to provide any confirmation to these reports. Still, it wouldn’t be too farfetched, given the ongoing partnership between Daimler/Mercedes-Benz and the Renault-Nissan group.
