Mercedes-Benz once again took part in the annual Super Bowl. This time, the brand highlighted the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster during the event’s commercial break.
The ad features the American actor Peter Fonda. It is titled, “Built to be Wild.”
The commercial was also given a legendary status with its use of the song “Born to be Wild” by the band Steppenwolf in its background music. The video was directed by Oscar-winning duo Joel and Ethan Coen.
The commercial pays homage to Fonda’s classic “Easy Rider” movie. The video starts with a group of bikers in a bar. Then one announces that they have been “blocked in.” As the angry group moves outside, they find the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster in front of their bikes. After that, Fonda appears and rides the roadster coolly while the bikers watch in awe as the song “Born to be Wild” plays in the car.
The presentation of the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster in Super Bowl LI marks the successful media kick-off of AMG’s 50th anniversary according to its CEO Tobias Moers.
Super Bowl LI ended with the New England Patriots taking the win against the Atlanta Falcons with the score 34-28. The memorable moments in the event include the amazing performance of Tom Brady, leading him to his fourth MVP in the sport. Next, there’s Lady Gaga’s number, and other commercials introduced by other popular brands in the USA. It should be noted that Super Bowl LI also marked the first time in the event’s history to have an overtime game.
