The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team has just announced a partnership with Tata Communications, with the latter supplying trackside connectivity via its global network.

The stated designation for Tata Communications is “Official Managed Connectivity Supplier,” and this involves providing high-speed connectivity on the track, which will allow the team access to real-time data needed to keep tabs on how the Mercedes cars are doing.

“Formula One relies on data and the ability to transfer our data from the track back to our factories in Brackley and Brixworth quickly and securely,” said Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn. He added that access to the Tata Communications network is key to the team’s performance, as well as its “ability to react” during the races.

Tata Communications is part of the Tata group and has a global network that includes a submarine cable networks (the first in the world  to be wholly owned) as well as a Tier-1 IP network that has connectivity to over 200 countries and territories. It also has global data center and collocation space pegged at a total of almost 1 million square feet.
