Making its presence felt by qualifying 2nd and 3rd fastest, the PETRONAS Syntium Team has gone on to winning the 13th edition of the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race, placing first and second place in the 12 hour event. The team uses a pair of customer SLS GT3s, and this is actually the second consecutive year where the PETRONAS Syntium Team has won this race.
For this race, the two-car team employed a mix of accomplished Japanese and Malaysian drivers, who proved their mettle by beating back its aggressive competitors. But once again, Mercedes’ racing cars proved their reliability during the 12-hour battle, and the race was a practically trouble-free run to the finish line. As the adage goes, to finish first, first you must finish. This was proven in this race by the metronome-like performance of the SLS GT3s as well as the consistency of its team of drivers.
Said David Wong, team principal of the PETRONAS Syntium Team: “For us as a Malaysian team, the MMER at Sepang is a kind of home race and, of course, a highlight on the racing calendar. Our consistency throughout the twelve hours’ duration was the key to today’s success. This 1-2 is a dream coming true. My thanks to the entire team that has worked so hard to achieve this.”
