The 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is nearing, so Mercedes-Benz is gearing for something it can show off in the event that would feature the technological ingenuity of the brand. According to several sources online, the company will be highlighting a prototype concept vehicle plus its plans for its self driving cars.
With the recent previews of Mercedes self driving cars and concept truck with autonomous driving features, one question running in the minds of enthusiastic customers of the brand is when will they get to own a vehicle with the said technology.
Based from the interview of the company’s spokesperson, Mercedes self driving cars are still a long way to go. The German automaker stated its commercial version is at least a decade away. So, that means a long wait, and let us also hope that nothing will forestall its pace in its R&D in order for the target to be met sooner.
Earlier, we reported a new tie up between Mercedes and LG which aims to co-develop a revolutionary stereo camera system that can be used to make self-aware cars or allow the driver to transfer some tasks to the intelligent vehicle.
According to a related news from TechCrunch, the joint system will be based on LG’s existing ADAS (Advanced Drive Assistance System) products. Then, it would be combined with Mercedes’ revolutionary 6D Vision technology to further improve its potentials.
It is speculated as well that the partnership would bring about numerous LG technology in the infotainment and mobile technology of Mercedes cars in the future.
