Mercedes-Benz CLS Approaches The End Of Its Production Line
Giancarlo Perlas May 8, 2023The Mercedes-Benz CLS model has been a familiar sight on the roads for nearly two decades. However, after years of speculation, the popular car is about to be phased out. According to a spokesperson from the company’s Australian branch, its production will come to an end in August, marking the end of an era for the sleek, swoopy, four-door coupe.
Mercedes-Benz CLS Production to Cease in August
After months of rumors about the possible discontinuation of the CLS, the Australian branch of Mercedes has finally confirmed via CarExpert that the vehicle’s production will end in August of this year. While the automaker has not said a word about a new model, it seems clear that the CLS’ demise is imminent.
A major indicator of this is the fact that the model is no longer listed on Mercedes Australia’s online configurator. This has prompted the automaker’s local representative to announce that orders have ceased. Consequently, customers are being redirected toward the recently introduced E-Class (W214).
New E-Class Replacing the CLS
According to reports, Mercedes is ending the CLS in order to shift its focus towards the new E-Class. The newly unveiled generation of the range offers a sleeker design and more advanced technology than its predecessor, which makes it also a worthy inheritor of the niche formerly filled by the outgoing CLS.
A Move to Cut Several Models
Mercedes’ decision to cut several models is part of its efforts to streamline its product lineup and focus on its more profitable models, especially its core series. The move is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving the company’s financial performance, reducing costs, and investing in electric and autonomous technologies.
The discontinuation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS is just one of the many steps the company is taking to achieve its goals.
