Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX EV Promises Over 750 Miles Range
Giancarlo Perlas October 9, 2020The three-pointed star marque recently revealed an upcoming concept electric vehicle called the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX. Its maker claimed that the electric car can reach more than 750 miles at full charge. Yes, that’s “miles”, not “kilometers”, so that’s about 1,200 km or a trip from Beijing to Shanghai.
Instead of simply going for a battery pack that’s larger than what they have in their EVs now, Mercedes is focusing on improving its power pack’s efficiency and range. The company said that they aim to put more efficient batteries in their production cars in the future.
“We have set up a group of our engineers to take on an extraordinary task: to build the longest-range and highest-efficiency electric car the world has ever seen. This is a serious project, chasing next-generation technologies. We intend to incorporate the learning into the next generation of series production cars,” said Markus Schafer, the head of research and development at Mercedes.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS currently has the longest electric range under the EQ range of Mercedes. A shareholder meeting of Daimler in July officially confirmed that it will have a 700 km or 435 miles range at a single charge.
The Vision EQXX is being developed by specialists from the Mercedes-Benz F1 HPP group. As of now, there’s no word yet about the official unveiling of the EV but its maker teased it through some photos.
Looking at the teaser images, the hood and the outline of the Vision EQXX somehow resemble the profile of the Mercedes-AMG Project One but with a smoother body that’s based on the present design philosophy of Mercedes.
