As Competition Heats Up, Mercedes Reveals New GLE Coupe

Giancarlo Perlas July 30, 2019

Competition is tough right now in the coupe segment as the new BMW X6 is readying for a debut and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, Range Rover Velar, and Audi Q8 join the party. Mercedes is a little late though, having introduced the GLE Coupe years after its archrival X6 surfaced.

The all-new 2020 Mercedes GLE Coupe’s camouflaged prototype is still undergoing final testing, but it has recently been spotted sharing the Nurburgring with the new BMW X6. To intrigue customers away from the X6, which introduced this segment more than a decade ago, the GLE Coupe needs to improve its products and the equipment it will come with.

For its part, BMW is also offering an all-new X6 for the 2020 model year, which means customers have their work cut out for them to research these two cars before signing those auto mortgages.

The prototype was heavily camouflaged but the new GLE Coupe looks incredibly sleeker than its predecessor, the outgoing model. While it is not going to be the world’s best car, we appreciate the route Mercedes has taken in improving the new car from the previous model.

If you have seen the latest regular GLE and its interior dashboard, you’ll have a good idea how this new GLE Coupe will look in the inside, too. Expect that new high-tech dashboard with dual screens to be the standard now.

Everything will be sourced from the regular GLE, including the GLE 580 Coupe with a mild-hybrid V8 engine that will sit on top of the GLE Coupe range. The AMG 63 will be the range-topping version.

An official debut of the new GLE Coupe is expected in the coming months.
