New Mercedes-Benz GLS Prototype Spotted During Testing

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLS was once again spotted during testing. This time, it was caught on video.

As we have previously witnessed in an earlier series of spy shots, the upcoming generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLS will feature a lot of changes in its look. The SUV will be larger and more spacious than its predecessor too. That’s thanks to its use of a new platform.

The video shows the future model of the GLS on the highway. It appears to be testing its hauling capabilities. As a bonus, the one-minute and 29-second clip captured the SUV alongside a Ferrari 458 Spider during a stop at a traffic light.

According to sources, the next GLS is still a long way to go. The earliest schedule of its unveiling might be sometime in 2019. It would come after the launch of the new GLE at the end of this year. With that, it is still hard to predict its mechanical specs.

However, it will likely benefit from the inline-six and V8 engines of Mercedes. Watch out for a plug-in hybrid model along the way too. An all-wheel drive system is a possible standard fit in the vehicle. Then, a nine-speed automatic transmission will probably be partnered to its power unit.

Since the GLS is the “S-Class of Mercedes SUVs”, the quality of its interior plus tech will certainly be at the same level of Mercedes’ flagship sedan. A high-performance AMG model of the auto in the form of the GLS 63 will follow as well.
