Mercedes F1 Race Car Launch Confirmed
Giancarlo Perlas January 4, 2017When Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team said that they will make a big announcement just after the New Year celebration, we assumed it will be about its new drivers’ lineup. However, it turned out that the group only confirmed the launch date of the new Mercedes W08 Silver Arrows.
According to Sky Sports, Mercedes F1 will unveil its new race car on February 23. The company is also giving its fans a chance to attend the W08 launch next month via an online competition.
Mercedes F1 stated that lucky participants in the contest will see the 2017 challenger of the Constructors Champion in the flesh. They will even witness the race car in action. In addition, there will be a meet and greet with the drivers of the group too.
It is not clear whether Mercedes will make us wait that long before it reveals the partner of Lewis Hamilton in the 2017 season.
Valtteri Bottas is expected to join Mercedes F1 as a replacement for Nico Rosberg. As reported earlier, the speculation about the Finn joining the team was further fueled when a source said that he visited the Mercedes F1 factory just before Christmas.
Bottas was seen trying out the cockpit of the W08. Then, he discussed preparations with Mercedes engineers for the coming season.
Weeks ago, McLaren’s Fernando Alonso and Manor’s Pascal Wehrlein were reported as possible candidates for the vacated Mercedes driver’s seat too. However, Alonso was locked in his contract with his current team and Wehrlein recently jumped to Sauber. With both names out of the equation, Bottas will most likely be on the most dominant team in F1 this 2017.
