Lewis Hamilton Will Use Faulty Engine in China as Spare
Giancarlo Perlas April 26, 2016Lewis Hamilton will still use the problematic engine he had in the previous race as a spare. According to Autosport, Mercedes already identified the issue that held back the reigning Formula One champion at the qualifying of the Chinese Grand Prix.
Hamilton is yet to win a race in the current F1 season. The worst performance he had so far was during the event in China. A fault in the power unit of his Silver Arrow prevented him from doing a flying lap in the qualifying.
Based on the report, the car of Hamilton had been stripped down of its MGU-H. The team suspects that the problem is from the insulation of the unit. As a result, among the parts that will be replaced in the engine are the turbochargers as well as the oil pumps because debris were found in the oil system.
The group added that further investigation is ongoing. The engineers of the team have been looking into the issue since the car of Hamilton came back to its Brixworth base.
The article also claimed Mercedes will assign an engineer who will exclusively look into the engine. The person will be working with four to five other engineers, and they will have a meeting to discuss their developments every 24 hours.
Despite a bad start in China, Hamilton still bagged the seventh position in the Sunday race. Nico Rosberg eventually made up for the poor performance of his partner by emerging victorious in the event. Presently, Rosberg is leading in the Drivers Standings. He is 36 points ahead of the second-placer, Hamilton.
