Will There Be a Four-Door Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe?
Giancarlo Perlas April 16, 2016Mercedes-Benz may be planning to introduce a new four-door coupe in its lineup. According to UK’s CAR Magazine website, it may come as a variant of the S-Class range.
So instead of a stand-alone range for a four-door coupe like the CLA and the CLS, the report claimed that the three-pointed star brand will simply fuse the front and rear ends of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe with the middle section of the S-Class sedan. Some alterations might be made to smoothly integrate the said elements. By going in that direction, the R&D of the company will no longer trouble itself with an expensive restyling.
Initially, the product planners of the brand were reluctant to expand the S-Class range further, so they shelved the idea of the four-door S-Class Coupe, which was internally known as the C222. However, the strong performance of the company in the 2015 financial year made Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche give the project a go. The source revealed that it now carries a code name S82. It is also possible that the car will be launched bearing the old SEC name.
Based on the article, the four-door S-Class Coupe is still a long way to go. It was suggested that it might be unveiled around 2020.
CAR speculated that the future Mercedes-Benz S-Class version will have a new air suspension. A plug-in hybrid model of the car is a big possibility too. In addition, it will be followed by a powerful AMG variant. A Maybach model of the auto is likely as well since the new coupe belongs to the flagship car segment of Mercedes. The top of the line AMG and Maybach models may have as much as 700-plus horsepower and might come with V12 engines.
