Mercedes-Benz Displays Record Sales in February

Overall, Mercedes-Benz delivered 133,752 units of vehicles in February 2016 according to Daimler. The numbers increased by 11.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

Strong performances were seen in the premium market segments of Europe, Asia-Pacific and NAFTA regions. Specific countries wherein Mercedes led the luxury vehicle sales were Japan, Australia, Canada and Taiwan.

Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and head of the Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales, he attributed the positive outcome to the high demand for the automaker’s SUVs and compact cars. He noted that the period was also the time when the 100,000th C-Class Saloon with long-wheelbase version was sold. The said car is exclusively available in China.

Crunching down the numbers in the different regions during that month, Mercedes sold 57,901 units in Europe, 44,918 units in Asia-Pacific, and 26,852 in NAFTA. The rates of increase in sales figures for the mentioned territories were at 14.5 percent, 18.2 percent, and 0.4 percent, respectively.

Sales in the United States of America fell by 2.9 percent at 22,941. On the other hand, the figures in china was at 25,837, which translates to an increase of 29.3 percent.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class remained as the world leader in the luxury car market since January this year. The demand for the SUVs of the three-pointed star marque stayed high as well. The source said 45,676 customers received their Mercedes SUVs in February, meaning a 48.5 percent increase compared to the same month of last year. The GLA and GLC were the the top picks in this category.

The smart car division of Daimler displayed double-digit increase in sales too. The compact car segment sold 10,015 units in February. The numbers are 20.6 percent higher based on a year-on-year comparison.
