Renntech Reveals R1 Package for the Mercedes-AMG GT S

Late last year, Weistec showed off what its latest tuning package could do to the Mercedes-AMG GT S through a video. The specialist demonstrated there how fast the car can go on a quarter-mile sprint. So far, the best record of the auto in that distance is 10.8 seconds at 126.25 mph max speed.
Not to be outdone, Renntech recently unveiled its R1 Performance Package for the GT S. The stage one kit gives the sports car an added 65 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque. Overall, the numbers sum up to a whopping 611 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque output for the AMG car’s 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine.
According to the information provided by Renntech, the boost was achieved through an ECU tune. Then, the performance was brought up through new stainless steel downpipes with 200 cell sport catalytic converters. The specialist explains the exhaust products are coated with ceramic to better manage heat in the engine compartment and to enhance its resistance to thermal stress. Next, two high-flow air filters were installed to the M178 engine of the auto.
The good thing about the R1 package is that it is also compatible with another AMG model of Mercedes. Based on the source, the kit works with the latest Mercedes-AMG C63.
No further information was provided from here. So we are yet to find out how will the car fare in its zero to 62 mph sprint, and importantly, its pricing. But with a package for a sports car worth more than a $100,000, the cost is expected to come really steep.
