Ryan Joseph Ramos October 19, 2014

Since the market launch of the new S-Class in mid-October of last year, over 100,000 units of the luxury sedan line have been sold. That represents the highest sales figures of within one year since launch in S-Class history, which would make this current model the most successful launch of an S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRIDSurely, it also helps that this S-Class was also the fastest to actually get to the market. Within under twelve weeks since market launch, the S-Class was already on sale in the three core markets. It went on sale at home first, being available in Germany since the end of July last year. China got the new S-Class at the end of September 2013, and then United States dealerships started selling the S-Class around mid-October that same year.

China and the US are the biggest markets for the new S-Class. According to Mercedes-Benz, almost one in two S-Class vehicles go to the world’s biggest automotive market in China. Then, a quarter of total S-Class sales are accounted for in the US. Germany is responsible for one in ten S-Class sales.

Mercedes-Benz Cars marketing and sales executive Ola Kallenius cited the combination of top-of-the-line quality, efficiency, and technology that makes up the S-Class as the key to getting such good sales numbers. In addition, expanding the S-Class line with the coupe and the S500 PLUG-IN HYBRID variants also help keep things fresh and allows the brand to cater to a wider consumer base.

There have been 75,391 S-Class units sold since the start of 2014. That marks a 105.8 percent increase over the same period last year. The figure also eclipses the 2012 one.
