Mercedes Gives Away a Total of £7 Million to Brackley Employees
Giancarlo Perlas October 15, 2014Following the impressive win of Mercedes AMG Petronas in the Formula One Russian Grand Prix, the three-pointed marque finally got its hand on the most-coveted constructors’ championship. It should be noted that it is the first time for Mercedes to achieve the title since joining F1.
To celebrate the important milestone in the sporting history of the German brand, the top brass of the company decided to release a total of £7 million to be distributed to its 700 employees in its Brackley facility, according to The Telegraph.
Breaking down the amount, that’s around £10,000 bonus to all the staff there, including the engineer, chef and cleaner. The report claimed though that some key personnel would likely get a bigger slice of the bonus based on their contributions to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team.
Everyone in the team was in high spirit after the race last Sunday after being awarded the constructors’ trophy. The team reportedly gathered in Brackley for a bacon buttie “breakfast of champions” immediately following the event, and they were all wearing their special victory T-shirts.
Niki Lauda was reportedly emotional after the team won the constructors’ title while Paddy Lowe was noticeably absent in the gathering due to his commitments in Russia.
Toto Wolff, on the other hand, gave recognition to Ross Brawn during his speech. He thanked the former Mercedes team principal for laying the foundation of their new achievement.
The source also noted that Wolff sent Brawn a voicemail on Sunday night to personally thank him. The motorsport director of Mercedes likewise acknowledged the contributions of Bob Bell, the outgoing technical director of the group.
It was reported that Mercedes received approximately £40 million for winning the championship. Then, with the constructors in Mercedes’ clutch, it was speculated that Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg would now be allowed to race each other without repercussions.
