Instead of the 3.0-liter V6 engine found in the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid, the new version of the C-Class will be using a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine capable of producing up to 208 bhp. Then, the engine is combined with an electric motor to provide it an additional output of 80 bhp. The power of the car is distributed through its seven-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
Using electric power, the car can achieve a range of around 20 miles. Despite the lower form of engine of the car, it possesses better fuel economy and carbon dioxide emission. The source noted that it can go 100.9 mpg and its emission is at 65 g/km.
Market Launch
According to the report, the Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-in Hybrid will go on sale in the early months of 2015. The company did not reveal a definite schedule for its world premiere and pricing yet, but we will keep a look out on that.
Future Plans for the Plug-in Hybrid Variants
Based from the interview of Ola Kallenius, head of the German marque’s sales and marketing division, the current plans for plug-in hybrid models would be for the C to S-Class. Presently, there are no plans to introduce similar variants to its small car family or the A, B, CLA and GLA classes in their current platform. That means, we will have to wait for at least three years before we see plug-in hybrids from the mentioned range of luxury vehicles.
