Mercedes-Benz is Working on Nest Thermostat Integration
Giancarlo Perlas June 27, 2014In an effort to make life more convenient for its customers, Mercedes-Benz is once again embarking on another technological feat. Last time, we have mentioned that the brand is exploring the possible integration of its car’s system to the Nest smart thermostat, but we did not have details yet on how the project will bring about benefits to its consumers. However, thanks to a report from Digital Trends, we now have an idea what the famous German marque is trying to achieve.
The goal of the automaker’s Research and Development division is to come up with an effective way for the car to communicate with the Nest thermostat at home. This will allow the thermostat to determine the estimated time of arrival of the Mercedes-Benz car’s driver so that it will have enough time to cool or preheat the temperature of the house before the arrival of its occupant.
The advantages presented by this innovation are it will promote energy conservation at home and put the driver distraction at a minimum.
According to the source, the automaker is trying to perfect the automation of the Nest’s interface so that the device will not waste electricity while the owner is on a traffic jam. In addition, Mercedes is coming up with ways to prevent its users from tinkering with their smartphones while on the road.
The Nest integration operates through the Digital DriveStyle app of Mercedes-Benz. This requires an iPhone and Drive Kit Plus Package installed in the car.
