Off Road Magazine Readers Vote Mercedes-Benz Unimog Vehicle of the Year (Special Vehicles Category)
Ryan Joseph Ramos June 15, 2013In the Special Vehicles category, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog won the best off-road vehicle of the year, as voted by the readers of the Off Road trade magazine.
The Unimog garnered 31.1 percent of the votes in its segment. A total of more than 74,000 votes cast for some 125 vehicles that were included in the thirteen categories. The magazine has been conducting reader polls since 1982.
For the 2013 model year, the different Unimog variants got a major overhaul, as the interiors and exteriors had been completely redesigned. The changes covered implement carriers (U 216 to U 423, as well as the U 530), along with extreme off-roaders (U 4023 and U 5023). The latter were given new Euro VI-compliant engines that offered superb output with better efficiency.
The extreme off-roader variants feature a classic design for the cabs. They feature the distinct Unimog look that has been in place since 1974. However, beneath the cab lie some very modern internal components, not the least of which is the Euro VI engine.
