The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is already over 40 years old but it still remains one of the dream cars of many auto enthusiasts. The luxury version of the G-Wagen that we have today is the second in its generation and recent spy shots suggest that we may be on the way to having a next-generation model soon. Before that though, the Mercedes-AMG G63 appears to be getting a major overhaul.
Spy Shots of the 2025 Mercedes-AMG G63
Recently, Motor Authority spied a semi-camouflaged prototype of the Mercedes-AMG G63 being test-driven on the road. From the looks of it, it’s poised to be an update for the current generation of the iconic SUV.
The camo concealing the front and rear parts of the vehicle normally suggest where the styling overhaul will be happening in the facelifted model. With that, the shape and creases on the covers suggest that the high-performance G-Class is about to get an aerodynamically enhanced fascia while keeping its signature Panamericana front grille with vertical slats. Meanwhile, the back will likely get some changes on the taillight design.
Some cosmetic enhancements on the bumpers and fenders may happen, too, based on the great deal of effort that Mercedes has put in to conceal them.
Powertrain
Although Mercedes has already previewed the electric version of the G-Class, the EQG, it’s unlikely that the automaker will introduce an electric or hybrid version of the current series. Under the hood, the AMG G63 will most probably keep its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with an output of 577 hp.
New Suspension System
Together with the facelift is a new suspension system for the G-Class. Ward’s Auto claimed that the AMG version of unit will carry over a semi-active hydraulic system like the one fitted in the latest SL and GT Coupe models.
Launch
The facelifted Mercedes-AMG G63 is expected to be launched sometime last year under a 2025 model-year badge.
