One of the oldest models of the three-pointed star marque that just underwent a major overhaul was the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL. Although the SL range has now been streamlined to be exclusively offered in AMG guise, it remains one of the sought-after sports cars of the Mercedes brand. Recently, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 variant of the series was pitted against its roadster contemporary from Jaguar, the F-Type 575R, to test its mettle.
2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63
As a recap, the sleek 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 522 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Its 4MATIC system features an all-wheel drive configuration aided by a nine-speed transmission for power distribution.
The AMG SL 63 weighs 4,305 lbs and can be had for a steep starting price of $180,000 in the US.
2023 Jaguar F-Type P575R
The challenger, the 2023 Jaguar F-Type P575R, possesses a supercharged V8 with a larger displacement of 5.0 liters. The sports car is not far from the Merc in power though with its 567 bhp and 516 lb-ft of torque output. Like its competitor, it is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system, but its transmission is only limited to eight-speed.
The Jag is lighter than the AMG SL 63 at 4,100 lbs and is a lot more affordable with its starting price tag of $95,000.
The Race
After the preliminaries by YouTube’s Sam CarLegion, which included a tour of the key exterior and interior features of both cars, they were pitted against each other in a series of rolling and drag races. Based on their specs, it may appear that the Jaguar actually posed a major threat to the Mercedes.
The results, however, would prove to be a landslide win for the Mercedes-AMG SL 63. The video below shows how the one-sided race went on.
