The sixth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan was recently unveiled, and it boasts significant improvements over the outgoing model in terms of space, performance, safety, tech, and comfort features.
Key Features of the New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan
Here is a quick rundown of some of the key features and upgrades of the new E-Class based on the press release of MBUSA.
Design and Display
The new E-Class sedan has a more spacious passenger compartment than the previous model, thanks in part to its 0.87-inch longer wheelbase. There is also an optional extra for the front grille in the form of illuminated surrounds that utilize LED modules to light up the chrome strips. The digital displays can be personalized with two display styles and three modes for individualized graphics.
Technology
One of the most significant upgrades in the new E-Class is the communication module, which utilizes 5G transmission technology. This upgrade provides faster data rates than the LTE/UMTS of previous models.
Additionally, the front passenger screen can operate in two modes, including a seat occupancy recognition system. Customers can create their own routines and link them to conditions and functions through MBUX. The active light strip at the top of the instrument panel and front door panels also adds a new dimension to the acoustics.
Performance and Safety
The new E-Class performs exceptionally well with a Cd value of 0.231 and a frontal area slightly larger than the previous model. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz has used nearly 500 microphones to ensure aeroacoustic development work.
The optional rear-axle steering system makes the new E-Class both agile and stable, and the turning circle is significantly reduced. The Active Parking Assist is now even faster and more intuitive, with speeds increased to up to 2.5 mph.
Power
The standard Benz variant of the E-Class sedan is available in two trims for the US market, namely the E350 4MATIC and E450 4MATIC. The E350 has a 2.0-liter mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG). This produces a total of 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque with an additional torque boost of 148 lb-ft.
Meanwhile, the E450 is packing a 3.0-liter mild-hybrid inline-six engine capable of delivering 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque plus an added torque boost of 148 lb-ft.
Both models are capable of maxing out at 130 mph.
