Mercedes-Benz just started the campaign for its 2024 E-Class, which means its official unveiling is drawing near. So far, we have only witnessed spy shots focusing on the exterior of the car, but now, its maker has teased its interior.
Since we now have the EQE that carries more advanced equipment than the current E-Class, it’s safe to assume that the latter will only copy its fully electrified counterpart. Although this seems to be the more practical approach, the new trailer for the next-gen E-Class interior shows that it may not be the case.
New MBUX Superscreen
The upcoming E-Class features a corner-to-corner dashboard layout for its new MBUX Superscreen display. However, it gets rid of the standard turbine-inspired air vents to pave the way for a curved design that integrates seamlessly with the side and upper borders of the fully digitized dash.
A closer examination of the central screen reveals that the shortcut buttons previously located at the center armrest have been moved underneath it. Then, a selfie camera is now integrated just above it.
According to Mercedes, the camera is an optional add-on for the MBUX Superscreen bundle. The same package also adds a touchscreen display in front of the front passenger seat. The cam is only active when the vehicle is stationary though to prevent distractions for the driver.
The camera can be utilized to take photos or videos. It can work with apps, too, like Zoom, Webex, Tiktok, and other social media networks. Other apps that come with the 2024 entertainment system of the car are the Vivaldi web browser and Angry Birds game — probably just to help kill time during long waits or to keep the passengers busy during long trips.
As a safety measure, the E-Class keeps track of the driver’s eye movements. If the sensors see that the driver is looking at the passenger display, the third display triggers its dual light control (DLC) system to prevent him/her from watching the feed. Likewise, the screen automatically adjusts its brightness to make the display less visible to the driver. These anti-distracted driving automatic controls can be turned on and off anytime.
Active Ambient Lighting System
Another optional extra for the 2024 E-Class cabin is the Active Ambient Lighting feature. This works hand-in-hand with the car’s standard Burmester sound system to change the lighting theme of the cabin based on the rhythm of the song being played.
Official Debut
The 2024 E-Class is expected to debut in spring. It will be available in US Mercedes dealerships later this year.
