Ultra-Luxurious Mercedes-Maybach GLS Gets a Facelift

It’s been more than three years since the Mercedes-Maybach GLS was unveiled. Now, a new spy video suggests that the ultra-luxurious SUV is already due for a facelift.

In the new spy shot released by walkoARTvideos, a prototype version of the Maybach GLS can be seen waiting at a stop light and then merging into traffic. The luxury SUV sports zebra camouflage wraps concealing some of its parts.

The camo covering the front is only hiding the front bumper, which hints that it may be getting a redesign in the next model-year series of the auto. The rear does not show us the full extent of the camouflaged area. However, based on the earlier spy shots of the Maybach GLS, it’s probably running across the liftgate, which also bridges the taillights. A likely scenario is that it may be equipped with LED illumination on that part for an added visual effect that’s similar to the layout of the EQS.

The changes outside may be minor, but Mercedes is known to put major overhauls in the interior of its facelifted models. With that, expect some new graphics in the digital cockpit of the Maybach GLS that could mirror the tech found in the new EQS but with more luxurious elements embedded into it. Of course, the update will come with a more advanced version of the MBUX infotainment system.

The powertrain of the current Mercedes-Maybach GLS will possibly be carried over to the facelifted variant. So, the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, courtesy of EQ Boost, may be found under its hood. Whether or not the 558 hp output of the auto will be boosted remains to be seen.
