The last time we saw the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C63, it was heavily clad in camouflage. Recently, the prototype of the high-performance sedan was caught on cam again, but this time, with most of its exterior exposed.
From the video, we can confirm the identity of the C-Class as an AMG C63 because of its exposed Panamericana front grille design with vertical slats, large intakes on the sides of the front bumper’s base, quadruple square exhaust tips, partially peeking rear diffuser, and sports wheels and tires.
One exciting revelation in the five-minute spy shot is the panel opposite the fuel tank cover, which hints at the location of a charging port. With that, we can now confirm that it will be offered as a plug-in hybrid.
According to sources, the upcoming AMG C63 will ditch the V8 in favor of a hybrid inline-four. The power setup is likely adopting the M139 engine found in the CLA45 with 2.0-liter displacement. It also comes with the addition of a rear-mounted electric motor and electric turbocharger to produce a combined output of over 500 hp. If that’s the case, Mercedes might at least try to match or go over the 503 hp generated by the older AMG C63 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine configuration.
Moreover, the AMG C63 will be getting the latest in Formula One tech sourced from the Mercedes Silver Arrows. The new specification is designed to improve the car’s performance and reduce its emissions.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 will probably come out by the end of 2022 with a 2023 model year badge.
