The new Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV was only rolled out last year but new spy shots suggest that it is already undergoing a facelift for the 2022 model series. The prototype was recently seen on European roads with minor camouflage, which gives us an idea of where the changes will take place.

The exposed exterior of the SUV clearly gives it away as the full-sized GLE. So, all that’s left for us to guess are its covered areas.

Looking closely, the Benz variant will likely get a double louver flanking the three-pointed star logo on the front grille. Then the covered lights will be updated to copy the ones fitted on the latest E-Class while the front bumper’s design will be tweaked a bit for a sportier styling.

Meanwhile, a peek at its interior reveals a twin-spoke multi-function steering wheel and what looks like several displays lifted again from its sedan counterpart. Of course, the infotainment system will be updated with the more advanced MBUX software.

Going under the hood, expect it to carry the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine for its base trim. The inline-six with mild-hybrid boost will also be offered in its Benz guises. Taking the range-topping AMG model will most probably offer a twin-turbo V8.

Lastly, the GLE SUV will keep its 9-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The power will be directed to a rear-wheel-drive system for the standard trim while the upper trims will feature the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
