BMW M5 Vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S Drift Challenge

They’re both products of brilliant German car engineering, and each one is a stand-out in its own right. That’s the reason why the Mercedes-AMG E63 S and the BMW M5 are considered to be the best high-performance luxury sedans in the market today. A new video shows how each car fares when it comes to drifting.

The first to hit the tracks was the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. As a recap, the auto possesses a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 packing up to 602 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque distributed to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Drift expert Ernest Page switched the vehicle to “Drift Mode,” which turns off the all-wheel drive system of the car in favor of a rear-wheel drive. He said that the AMG E63 S felt big, but drifting with it was easy.

The next to be tested was the BMW M5. Beneath the hood of the car is a 4.4-liter biturbo V8 engine. The unit is good for 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque going to all four wheels and governed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Again, the all-wheel drive system of the M5 was turned off to give way to its rear-wheel drive system through its “2WD” mode. Page appeared to have struggled with the Bimmer. However, he still managed to make it drift.

There was no judgment regarding which car had better drifting performance. Looking at the whole video though, the Mercedes-AMG E-Class sedan accomplished it smoothly than its BMW rival.

It should be noted that rain started to come down during the M5 testing. Therefore, it is possible that the slippery road prevented the BMW to show off its best drift performance.

You be the judge.
