New Mercedes Compact Electric Car Concept To Be Unveiled

To expand its line of compact electric cars, Mercedes is looking at unveiling a new concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 on September 12. The coming Mercedes compact electric car lineup will start with a new member of the EQ range.

The second member of the EQ plug-in electric concept car is an indication that the German automaker is ready for its planned electrification. This is in response to the growing call from regulators and governments for automakers to comply with current environmental and fuel-efficiency standards.

Previously, Mercedes already introduced the Generation EQ all-electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show in 2016. While many were impressed with the car’s claimed performance, they were unimpressed with the overall look of the car. This is probably the main reason why the electric SUV did not gain any traction in the auto industry department.

For this generation, the German manufacturer replaced the traditional grille found on the Generation EQ all-electric SUV with glass and LED lights. This could be something that automakers will also be duplicating in the future, but the way Mercedes used the glass and LED lights isn’t something many would come to love on the new electric car concept.

The new compact electric car looks to be a re-imagined version of the current A-Class. Yet, details are still scarce, so it’s hard to qualify this conception.

The electric car concept can produce 400 bhp and 310 miles of range, competing directly with the Tesla Model X. By 2025, Mercedes hopes to introduce 10 new all-electric vehicles under the EQ namesake.
