Recently, new spy shots of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class pickup emerged online. The vehicle is suspected to be a Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² pickup, which will be released with a 2018 model year.
The G-Class range of the three-pointed star brand is reportedly introducing a new generation model before the decade ends. The pickup variant of the segment will mark the transition of the range from the current version to its next generation model.
The vehicle in the pictures certainly confirm that it is a G-Class because of its boxy shape. However, noticeable in the auto is the heavy black fabric covering its rear. The cover is suspected to be hiding a pickup bay. Meanwhile, the door and window in the mid-body of the vehicle indicates that it is a dual-cab pickup.
The model in the images suggest that we are looking at a Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² Pickup because of its wider wheel track and higher suspension compared to the standard G-Class. In addition, the wheels seem to be designed for off-roading. Seen in the photos is a set of 22-inch AMG alloy wheels fitted into the SUV.
If the auto here turns out to be the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² pickup, expect it to house a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine similar to the Mercedes-AMG GT. The power unit will likely be detuned though to mirror the output of the existing Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² at 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque.
