The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept has finally been unveiled at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show. The new 4-door AMG sports car recently appeared in a teaser photo and rumors about it have been circulating online since 2015. It was referred to as the Mercedes-AMG GT4 back then.
Design
The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept follows the form and body styling of the Mercedes-AMG GT. However, the concept car is more muscular, thanks to its four-door frame, and it features a smoother body compared to the AMG GT.
The four-door AMG GT Concept follows the new visually-stunning “Aesthetics A” design language of Mercedes that offer lesser body lines and sweeping angles. The car also possesses the new Panamericana grille similar to the refreshed Mercedes-AMG GT. Then it introduces the “nano active fiber technology” in its daytime running lamps.
Engine
The AMG GT Concept is equipped with the performance hybrid system of AMG. It partners the new 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine of the brand with electric motor. The output of the auto is at 600 kW. Daimler claimed that they are targeting a zero to 100 km/h acceleration of less than three-seconds for the car.
The company further revealed operating strategy of the AMG GT Concept is based on the lessons it learned from the use of the hybrid powerpack of Mercedes-AMG Petronas in its Formula One race cars.
The AMG GT Concept has three operating modes. The driver can switch from either the combustion engine or its electric motor. For optimal performance, the car can be operated with both power sources to utilize its hybrid drivetrain.
