In January, Mercedes-Benz celebrated another milestone with the 130 years of history for modern automobiles, as shown on a report from autoevolution.com. Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler were essentially behind this, albeit independent of each other.
Around a month after, the Stuttgart-based company sent a congratulatory message to its friendly rival, BMW, for its 100th birthday. The message was picked up by majority of major media outlets around the world. For April Fools’ Day, Mercedes-Benz decided to have a little fun. They made a video that was both cool and funny.
Initially, industry watchers would not have thought of bringing back Carl Benz for the video and that bringing him into the future would result to a rather amusing video.
The video shows some of the instances when the marketing department can use self-deprecating humor, which they were able to present elegantly. The video had a number of funny moments, including the time when the founder of the company poked fun on the Matryoshka design language used by Mercedes-Benz as well as the fact that Mercedes-Benz is a part of a bigger company named after Daimler.
The Carl Benz lookalike was apparently attending the 2016 Geneva Motor Show where he met a representative of BMW. He gave the representative an amusingly-said “happy birthday!” The meeting with the CEO of the company was also quite amusing as well as the time when he was head-banging while listening to the entertainment system inside the new E-Class.
But, industry watchers may agree that the best part of the video was when he talked about the automotive industry and the future of the company and automobiles in general where Carl Benz gave a number of reasonable points in his speech.
