BMW remains the world’s top luxury car brand in terms of sales in 2015. However, Mercedes-Benz garnered enough figures to propel itself to number two in the race, beating Audi.
According to Motor Authority, the latest numbers shows that BMW is on its fifth consecutive record sales. In the year that just ended, the rival of Mercedes listed a total of 1,905,234 units sold. The figures are 5.2 percent higher than its 2014 sales.
On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz displayed a huge improvement compared to its 2014 record. The three-pointed star brand sold 1,871,511 units in 2015. That translates to 13.4 percent increase compared to its previous year.
Audi, despite the emission scandal that its parent company is facing now, managed to sell 1,803,250 units. The figures are 3.6 percent higher than its 2014 sales.
Wrapping things up, the three major luxury car providers in the world all had record sales within 2015.
China still serves as a major market for Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Mercedes-Benz, in particular, considers the region as its strength. Cars sold in China under the brand soared by 32.6 percent in 2015 amid the volatility of the Chinese economy last year.
It should be noted that Mercedes enjoyed strong performance in the Chinese market during the first half of 2015 while its rivals saw a drop in their sales. Ola Kaellenius, a member of the Board of Management of Daimler and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales, attributed their success to their attractive brand, strong portfolio, and continuous expansion of their dealer network in the country.
Among the notable best sellers of Mercedes in the area that time were the Maybach S500 and the Mercedes-Maybach S600.
