Toto Wolff, the motorsport chief of the Mercedes Formula One team, stated that his group “overachieved” this year. That is after Team Mercedes established itself in the second place of the 2013 F1 season standings.

Add to that the amazing performances of its drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg this year who were able to bag the fourth and sixth positions respectively in the 2013 F1 season standings. Overall, the drivers of the team claimed eight pole positions, finished in the first place three times and added nine podiums during the season.

Wolff noted that his team definitely “overachieved” after surpassing its target before the 2013 season started. He attributes the success of the team this year to things like having the right group of people in his group, cooperation between each units of the team and having the right resources in Stuttgart.

It should be noted that Mercedes has beaten Ferrari in the 2013 F1 season standings with the latter only claiming the third place. However, Mercedes was only six points ahead of Ferrari in the Constructor’s Championship. Mercedes scored 260 points while Ferrari trailed behind with 254 points.

Mercedes was still far behind Red Bull, who was the overall champion, in terms of points. Red Bull scored 596 points which gives it a 236-point difference against Mercedes.

Mercedes Expects a Better Performance in 2014

With the implementation of the 2014 engine regulations, people at Mercedes are hopeful that their chances of getting the championship next year is more feasible. Well, that is if they will be able to take care of the issues that have been plaguing their cars in the 2013 season plus keep their drivers focus in the championship with the special mention of Hamilton who just launched his music career recently.
