To further enhance its commercial vehicle operations in China, Daimler AG has established Daimler Trucks and Buses China Ltd. (DTBC), a new legally independent entity that will be responsible for ensuring that Daimler can supply specific customer needs as far as commercial vehicles are concerned.
Hubertus Troska, the Daimler Board of Management member responsible for China, says that this is part of the continuing realignment of Daimler’s business in China. “The new commercial vehicle entity is another milestone for Daimler in China and highlights our long-term commitment to the world’s largest vehicle market, which promises to offer enormous potential in the future as well.”
According to Robert Veit, DTBC President and CEO, the entity will be responsible for providing a ‘solid framework of future expansion’ as well as the continued broadening of the Daimler commercial vehicle product line. He cited the bus segment as an example.
The move from Daimler Trucks comes on the heels of solid sales figures in China, with over 6,100 units shipped in 2012. As far as the European truck manufacturers go, Mercedes-Benz continues to have the lead, and DTBC is seen as key to maintaining and growing this lead while adding other key aspects such as fleet management, telematics solutions, and financing.
