Mercedes-Maybach SL Spy Shots Surface Before Pebble Beach Debut
Giancarlo Perlas August 9, 2024- New spy shots teased the Mercedes-Maybach SL ahead of its big reveal at Pebble Beach on August 18.
More spy shots of the Mercedes-Maybach SL recently surfaced to tease the gearheads anticipating its debut. These came a little more than a week before it finally makes its world premiere at the 73rd Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
SL Goes from Benz and AMG to Maybach
Previously, AMG pointed out that it would never fuse an AMG model with the Maybach brand. The original plan was to keep the two apart.
As they say though, “Never say ‘Never’.”
The SL happens to be one of the longest-running core series of the three-pointed star marque. So, its combined legacy and luxury make it an enticing addition to the ultra-luxurious Maybach line.
Since AMG had already taken total control in the development of the current generation of the SL, the decision of Maybach to extend its opulent mark on the range inevitably intertwined it with the high-performance arm of Mercedes.
Expected Features
A few days ago, the Mercedes-Maybach SL was once again spied on while making its rounds before its historic unveiling in California. Although the images still showed the car in partial camouflage wrap, it never failed to elicit excitement among automotive enthusiasts.
The gaps in the Maybach SL’s camo revealed that it has ditched the signature quad-exhaust pipes with square tips typically found in its AMG guise. The wheel design appeared to remain the same, but the final version will likely adopt the ultra-sophisticated turbine-inspired styling or classier design featured in the latest Maybach models.
The spied Maybach SL kept its frontal area clad in zebra camo. However, official teasers from its maker hinted that it will bear a darkened hood cover. This will be adorned with scattered holographic double M logos against the backdrop of the ever-recognizable standing three-pointed star emblem. Meanwhile, the front grille will most certainly maintain Maybach’s closely knit distinct vertical slats within a wide panel.
The engine of the Maybach SL is still a mystery up to this point, but rumors suggest that it will be equipped with a V8 partnered with an electric motor for extra oomph.
