Is Mercedes F1’s Lewis Hamilton Making A Switch To Ferrari?

Giancarlo Perlas February 1, 2024

Last year, rumors started circulating of the potential switch of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari following a tedious contract negotiation between him and Mercedes F1. These were immediately quelled by the veteran driver and the revelation of his two-year contract extension with his present team. However, the racing world is once again abuzz with the same news, and this time, it might be true.

According to Sky Sports, Hamilton will be replacing Carlos Sainz Jr. by next year. This comes amid the seven-time champion’s current contract with Mercedes, which will run until the end of 2025.

The source claimed the employees at the Brackley facility of the group were already informed of the developments. Interestingly, Mercedes has yet to make an official statement to address the matter.

The unusual silence of both the three-pointed star and the Prancing Horse marques are now driving speculations that the rumors may be true after all. If the gossip was indeed false, they could have easily released an official comment denying the claims as they did in 2023.

Hamilton’s cryptic remarks during interviews last year added fuel to the story.

“I’d be lying if I said I’d never thought about ending my career anywhere else,” he said during an interview. “I started at McLaren, I’d like to think I’ll always be a part of the McLaren family, I started there when I was 13 years old so I thought about what it would look like if I was at McLaren one day.”

“I thought about and watched the Ferrari drivers on the screens at the track and of course you wonder what it would be like to be in red,” he added.

With Charles Leclerc signing a term extension last week, he is set to partner up with Lewis Hamilton, if the swap comes to fruition.
