Mercedes-AMG GT4 EV Spied Strutting On The Road
Giancarlo Perlas November 2, 2023Mercedes-Benz appears to be gearing up to level up its game in the high-performance EV segment. Recently, a new camouflaged sports car suspected to rival the Porsche Taycan was caught on cam. The source says we may be looking at the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT4 EV.
Successor to the EQE 53
Not to be confused with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 exclusive for customer racing teams, the GT4 EV test mule appears to be more of an evolution of the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ than an offshoot of its gas-guzzling namesake.
According to the source of the spy shots, Motor1, the alleged GT4 EV is called the C295 within the Mercedes circle. Although we are not sure yet whether or not it will carry over the GT4 badge in its final form, the word is that its output will be around the 1,000 hp range similar to the Mercedes-AMG ONE.
Not Just a Modded EQE 53
Make no mistake, the GT4 EV will not be a mere modification to the EQE 53. Although the camouflaged model in the images here shows that it’s under the shell of the latter, the report says that the production version will get an all-new design.
For added context, Mercedes and other automakers usually use test mules in the early development phases of future vehicles to evaluate some of the parts or components that they are planning to integrate to them. The aerodynamic body of the EQE 53 just so happens to be the ideal architecture to test the high-performance electric cars of the three-pointed star marque as we await the AMG.EA platform dedicated to AMG EVs.
Arrival of the GT4 EV
Judging the progress of the test mule, there’s still a long road ahead before we will witness the unveiling of the GT4 EV. If this happens to be the first full-electric AMG we reported earlier, then the earliest time for its launch may be in 2025.
