Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain Spy Shots Surface Again

Giancarlo Perlas April 1, 2023

Mercedes-Benz is bringing back the rugged version of its E-Class wagon, the E-Class All-Terrain, for its next-generation series. Recent spy shots have provided a sneak peek of the upcoming high-riding estate.

Design and Key Features

The new E-Class All-Terrain is based on the upcoming E-Class wagon. Like our previous spy video, the spy shots from Motor1 show the auto in a fully camouflaged condition. However, the contrasting wraps, bulges, and exposed areas of the covers do tell us a lot of what to expect from it.

First off, the black plastic cladding around the wheel arches indicates that it will get some revisions there. Meanwhile, its stance suggests a slightly lifted suspension.

Based on the images here, the ride height of the E-Class All-Terrain may not be as high as one would expect, but then again, it could be due to the air suspension of the test car being set in a lower setting. The vehicle also has extensive body cladding, particularly around the rear, fuel filler door, and bumper, which further hints at where the highlights of the model will be focused.

Inside, the E-Class All-Terrain will most probably sport the same features as other versions of the new E-Class, such as three dashboard screens and active ambient lighting. The new model might come with some unique features like the previous model’s roll and pitch meter, too.

Powertrain

Details about the E-Class All-Terrain’s powertrain are still scarce. However, considering the latest trend of Mercedes, it is likely to come with a hybrid powertrain.

In the US, the outgoing model features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with an integrated starter generator (ISG) that generates 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The power routes through a nine-speed automatic gearbox to an all-wheel-drive system. Special Offroad and Offroad Plus programs can be selected by the driver for tackling rugged patches of the terrain.

E-Class All-Terrain Release Date

Mercedes is set to debut the new E-Class lineup this spring. After that, the All-Terrain model may likely follow.
