All-New Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV Finally Unveiled
Giancarlo Perlas April 20, 2023The ultra-luxury division of the three-pointed star marque has finally unveiled its first all-electric SUV limo in form of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, which is based on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. As expected from an auto bearing the double-M emblem, it has no shortage of opulent features that dwarf its Benz and AMG versions plus a high-performance powertrain to boot.
Key Exterior and Interior Features of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV
Based on the press release and images released by Mercedes-Benz USA, the extra opulent vehicle showcases a two-tone exterior paint and it is adorned with the signature double M emblem of Maybach, which is strategically positioned in its key areas.
These are complemented by an excessively lavish interior. The rear seats offer the same level of luxury as the front seats, providing standard heating, ventilation, and massage functions that extend to the neck and shoulders for ultimate comfort.
The rear seats are in bench format by default, but selecting the Maybach’s ‘First-Class Rear’ option upgrades to airplane-style seats, a significant center console, and cupholders with heating functionality. The console includes a tablet to control the onboard rear entertainment, several USB-C plugs, and HDMI inputs.
Optional extras for the center console include small folding tables, a fridge for drinks, and champagne goblets made of silver. In addition, the car can be equipped with Burmester’s ‘4D sound,’ which emanates from 15 speakers strategically distributed throughout the cabin of the car, including two exciters in each seat.
The car’s noise level from the outside is reduced with laminated glass, aero flicks, specifically developed supports, and extra rubber mountings. Moreover, Mercedes has gone the extra mile by adding extra foam to minimize the sound of stones striking the wheel arches’ interiors.
Performance of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV
The extra-opulent vehicle is available only in its Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV guise for the North American market. It has an expected WLTP rating of 2.5m per kWh, which equates to a range of up to 373 miles from the car’s massive battery. Although the battery’s size is unknown, the figures suggest that it is at least as large as the standard EQS SUV’s 120kWh option.
In this case, the car can charge up to a maximum speed of 200kW, and you can charge it from 10-80% in only 31 minutes. A 15-minute charge on a powerful rapid charger is enough to juice the auto for an additional 137 miles of range.
The Maybach EQS SUV delivers impressive performance for its size. Putting the pedal to the metal only takes 4.4 seconds to hit 0-62mph time. The car has a special Maybach drive mode designed to provide maximum comfort for rear passengers, deploying the air suspension for a more comfortable ride.
The car’s 130mph top speed is to conserve range and has no bearing on the Maybach’s 649 bhp from the twin e-motors at the front and rear, which provide four-wheel drive. It also boasts an impressive 701 lb-ft of torque.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is an ultra-luxurious electric vehicle with a spacious and comfortable interior, an impressive sound system, and advanced technology features. It offers excellent performance and a long driving range, making it an ideal choice for those who value both luxury and sustainability in their vehicles.
