Facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLB and EQB Spied During Testing
Giancarlo Perlas February 24, 2023The Mercedes-Benz GLB has been in production since 2019, meaning it is already due for a mid-cycle refresh. Likewise, its electric counterpart, the EQB, is about to get the same treatment. Recently, both were spotted in different areas while undergoing testing.
Based on the spy shots provided by Motor1, there are many changes happening to the GLB. First off, the exposed sides of the SUV do not show any rigid body lines. This suggests that it is about to get smoother exterior surfaces similar to the latest Mercedes models like the EQS.
The other updates for the refreshed GLB include the front grille and front bumper. Meanwhile, the camo strip covering a portion of the rear hatch bridging the taillights also suggests something is in the works there. It’s possible that the area might get a new LED strip for added visuals.
On the other hand, it’s puzzling why the facelifted EQB is already underway because it was only introduced in the second half of 2021. Regardless, it shows the same amount of changes as its gas-guzzling sibling, except for its body panels. The design updates seem minimal but it’s expected that the tech of the units will get the most revision.
As mentioned previously, Mercedes is about to electrify all its core vehicle offerings starting in 2024. That means the EQ models may become redundant under the new product portfolio of the German automaker. Therefore, this prefix for Mercedes EVs will be discontinued by then, and the next EQB may be absorbed by the revamped lineup of the Mercedes-Benz GLB range.
