The three-pointed star marque has been teasing us with spy shots and videos of the next-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 variants for nearly a year now. In recent months, we have seen the upcoming model of the high-performance C-Class gradually shedding its zebra camouflage, and now, it’s making its rounds again in Nurburging with a more exposed exterior.
Since we are talking about the next-gen AMG C63 here, the car is expected to have a major overhaul in its exterior, interior, and powertrain. The earliest spy photo of the auto shows just that because its body is mostly hidden in camo.
The video here shows two versions of the car: the wagon and sedan. The wagon only has its panoramic roofing and lights exposed with subtle hints of its Panamericana front grille design and quadruple exhaust tips. Meanwhile, the sedan already has its doors, roof, lights, and some part of the hood uncovered, which gives us a clearer idea of what to anticipate. Therefore, since the two are cut from the C-Class range, they will most likely share almost all of their design cues. That’s except, of course, their rear styling wherein the wagon gets a hatch and the sedan features a boot compartment.
According to reports, the AMG C63 will ditch the V8 in favor of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a hybrid setup that includes an electric turbocharger and electric motor powering an all-wheel-drive system. Insiders say that the configuration allows a total output of around 600 hp, which will then be distributed via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The AMG C-Class is expected to be launched starting with the C53 trim in the latter half of the year. The more potent C63 seen in the spy videos will probably follow before 2022 ends.
