Next-Gen Mercedes-AMG GT Starts Testing in Nurburgring
Giancarlo Perlas September 6, 2022The development of the next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT continues. Recently, it was spotted making its round on the Nurburgring track.
After months of testing on public roads, the AMG GT is finally ready to test its mettle on the endurance track. The new spy video here shows just that.
The prototype for the next-gen of the series is completely covered in camouflage, except for its lights peeking under the wraps. It is hard to see the interior of the car at the angle the video was taken, so we will just reserve its discussion in the near future when we finally get a glimpse of it.
Turning up the volume of the video reveals the same throaty sound found in the present V8-equipped version of the car. Therefore, it is safe to assume that it is keeping the engine of its predecessor, which is great news. However, it will likely be tuned to deliver more power than the outgoing model. It will probably take a mild-hybrid setup to achieve such a feat as well.
With that, it could get around 800 hp in its top trim model. We also cannot dismiss the possibility of an inline-six derivative of the range along its base trim. Likewise, a plug-in hybrid variant is not a far cry.
According to the source of the spy video, the next-gen Mercedes-AMG GT shown here is expected to make its official debut in a few months’ time as a 2023-year model auto.
