New Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Makes a Private Lounge Debut

Giancarlo Perlas June 14, 2022

Mercedes-AMG is celebrating its 55th year anniversary, and there’s no better way to do that than showcasing the best cars it produced so far. Among the featured vehicles are the much-awaited Mercedes-AMG One and the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4.

Although the production version of the AMG One was featured on the Media Site of Mercedes-Benz Group, the AMG G63 4×4 was only shown in the “Private Lounge” of the corporate site. Its public debut is expected to follow soon after photos of it were already leaked to the public by CNET.

The images show captures of the new G-Class variant, which were taken from a presentation. That explains their quality here.

Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4: What We Know So Far

Not every detail is available about the new AMG G63 4×4 yet although according to the YouTube presentation of the G-Class product manager, Toni Mantele, it has a 45-degree approach angle, 13.8 ground clearance, 35.8-inch fording depth, and climb grade of up to 45 degrees. Some of the numbers may still fall behind the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 but it certainly is better than the standard AMG G63.

The AMG G63 4×4 benefits from the current generation G-Class chassis and front axle though it boasts a more refined ride experience due to its dedicated portal axles at all four corners. Moreover, it gets an enhanced look compared to the regular AMG G63 through its wider fenders that are half-finished in carbon fiber, black bumper protector below the standard rear bumper, LED light bars framed in carbon, and carbon-fiber spare wheel carrier instead of the usual cover. In addition, it comes with 22-inch wheels, optional roof rack and rear ladder, and a plethora of color choices available from the G Manufaktur package of Mercedes that includes the Green Hell Magno finish seen in the model here.

The special G-Class package also offers a selection of color combinations for its interior upholstery. Furthermore, it adds the option to install real wood flooring on the cargo bay. Another new feature in the new G-Class variant is the digital rear-view mirror that gives a clearer view of what’s behind it on the road. The rest of the interior elements are just carried over from the standard AMG G63.

The AMG G63 4×4 carries the standard 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of the AMG G63. However, the output of the power unit has been slightly bumped from 577 hp to 585 hp.

Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4: The Last of Its Kind

Mercedes refers to the AMG G63 4×4 as “the last of its kind” and it’s being marketed for enthusiasts and collectors. Perhaps it marks the G-Class’ transition phase towards an electrified future as it prepares for the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz EQG.

There’s no word yet about the availability of the new Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 in the market, but it will likely be offered as a limited-run series.
