2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Strips Out More Camo in New Spy Shots

New spy shots reveal more of what’s about to come from the new Mercedes-AMG SL. The latest sighting of the car shows that some of its camouflage has been stripped.

The new photos from Motor1 tease the slick bodywork of the upcoming AMG SL. The near-production model is finished in gunmetal gray with a black soft top. The car also appears to be sporting the electronic pop-up door handles found in the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and chrome running boards.

Based on some press releases and hints from Mercedes earlier, AMG is now at the helm of the SL’s development, and it’s set to be unveiled at the end of this year as a 2022 model series. That means no more Benz variants for it. The next-gen car will serve as a replacement to the SLC and the S-Class convertible.

Previously, Daimler showed the new platform of the AMG SL. It is composed of a complex system of materials to make its architecture achieve maximum rigidity but light enough so as not to compromise with its driving dynamics and comfort. The design was inspired by the motorsport cars of Merc.

Meanwhile, the interior will offer a 2+2 seating configuration with Nappa leather and microsuede covers. It will be highlighted by a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.9-inch adjustable central touchscreen with the MBUX infotainment system.

According to rumors, the AMG SL will feature an all-wheel-drive system. It will likely carry a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine matched with an electric motor. The setup is expected to deliver an output of over 800 hp.
