Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 Gets a Boost and New Look from Vath
Giancarlo Perlas July 4, 2021The Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 may no longer see the light of day after its supposed spy shots that surfaced a year ago but Vath recently did something to the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 that may make it worthy of the 45 badge. The tuner gave the spacious subcompact SUV a power boost and a cosmetic upgrade.
Power
Starting with what’s under the hood, the AMG GLB 35 comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine similar to the Mercedes-AMG A 35 hot hatch. It produces 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque in its stock configuration that goes to a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and distributed via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. That’s good for a 0-62 mph run in just 5.2 seconds.
The new tuning package of Vath turned its numbers to 385 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It was accomplished by an ECU remap, a new sports air filter, and the addition of a rear silencer. To support the extra oomph, the specialist upgraded the transmission software of the auto too. There’s no information about the new acceleration time of the vehicle from 0 to 62 mph but it is estimated to do that in under 5 seconds with the modifications.
Design
The only changes in the body of the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 were its new matte bronze paint matched with 21-inch wheels wrapped in 255/30 and 295/25 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for the front and back, respectively. It also has a new adjustable coilover suspension kit that brings it closer to the ground by 0.6 to 1.4 inches.
Aside from those, everything appears the same as the SUV’s fresh-from-the-factory version, but the updates surely elevate it from the standard variant.
