More All-New Mercedes EV Models Hinted at Trademark Filings
Giancarlo Perlas February 5, 2021Mercedes-Benz continues to push with its goal to offer more electric vehicles in its EQ lineup. From what we know so far, the luxury car brand is planning to launch at least six EV models up to next year. The names go from EQA to EQX, but a new trademark filing suggests that there will be more Mercedes EV models going forward.
The new list filed with the United States Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO) on January 22, 2021, shows EQ units going beyond the X designation. One of the interesting names that came up was the “EQY”.
The EQY is an all-new model that didn’t appear in the original EQ names Mercedes submitted for a trademark in 2016. As of now, we have no idea whether it will be a passenger car, an SUV, or a van.
Mercedes filed another document containing the “EQXX” and “Vision EQXX” six days after the filing of the document containing the EQY too. By now, we already have some hints at the EQXX’s key features.
Based on the teaser of the EQXX last year, the EV promises an electric range of 750 miles at a single charge. Once again, let us remind everyone that the unit of measurement here is “miles” and not “kilometers”. So that should be 1,207 km, which is the driving distance between Beijing and Shanghai.
The silhouette of the auto in the teasers implies a hypercar profile similar to the Mercedes-AMG Project One. A close-up photo of its elongated hood also further supports the identity of the EV as a roadster.
Lastly, the filing mentions a new “Microcut” fiber described as “adjusted fabric covers of microfiber for vehicle interiors”. The cloth is expected to be made from environmental-friendly and non-organic materials instead of traditional leather to provide the EV a more sustainable public image.
