Mansory’s Total Conversion Gives 850 HP to the Mercedes-AMG G63
Giancarlo Perlas January 31, 2021Almost a decade after the Gronos made its debut, Mansory continues to impress us with its new iteration of the total conversion package for the G-Class. This time, it’s for the 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63. Dubbed as the “Gronos 2021”, the new version is looking to surpass its predecessor.
Mansory’s works have either been a hit or miss in the past because of the tuner’s taste, which many consider as too excessive. However, the company seemed to have hit the jackpot on the Gronos again.
According to the specialist, the Gronos is its bestselling tuning package. The total overhaul for the G-Class will be available at the beginning of this year.
The modifications are highlighted by Mansory’s performance boost for the handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of the AMG G63. The upgrade raises the output of the power unit to 850 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, which puts it within the supercar territory. The figures are 273 hp and 150 Nm more than the factory configuration of the top-of-the-line AMG G-Class. Compared to the overhaul on the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of the G-Class in 2013, the 2021 version is just 10 hp more and with the same level of torque. All that power takes the iconic G-Wagen from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds but its top speed remains at 250 km/h.
Complementing the engine tune are a bunch of aesthetic improvements that make heavy use of carbon fiber. The said material is used on the wider front and rear wings, extended wheel arches with rear vents, spare wheel cover, LED light casings on the roof, and side mirror caps. The tuner also throws in a set of massive sporty wheels to complete the exterior transformation. Meanwhile, the upholstery in the interior is also clad in carbon with contrasting aluminum accents.
Mansory only plans to make 10 samples of the Gronos 2021 based on the Mercedes-AMG G63. The pricing of each unit is only available upon direct inquiry with the authorized dealers of the tuner.
